Dallas to Austin Road Food
Hi everyone- I will be driving down with my sister from Dallas to Austin next Sunday. Any sites along the route that are must stops? Not looking for anything particular, just wondering if there is some local flavor we shouldn't miss. TIA!
DFW - Breakfast Spots
There's a couple places, but they're going to be kinda pricey and not the cheap breakfast taco style. There's Taco Cabana that serves pretty standard breakfast taco fare that have quite fresh tortillas. Stay away from the breakfast burritos. The tortillas are the pre-made ones they use for the quesadillas. There's also Taco Republic (north of Spring Valley Road and US-75 in richardson) that does some pretty good breakfast tacos.
Best restaurants on or near the Greenville St Patrick's parade route?
Menu looks great! Thanks.
St. Martin's Wine Bistro for Bday Dinner?
Personally speaking, I think St Martins is meh. Especially for a father & son dinner. If you want to stay in that neighborhood, try Terilli's, The Grape, or, Blue Goose Cantina. To me, all are more conducive for a dinner with dad.
Knife sharpening
The bevel angle on Japanese knives is more acute and the steel is harder. They can also be prone to chipping because of the harder (more brittle steel). Shuns are chippy IMO. Regardless of whom one chooses, it is very important when you have Japanese knives to go to someone who knows the steel and how to sharpen at a proper angle. Most sharpeners can sharpen the Japanese knives but might mess them up. They may take them to the belts and change the angle of the edge or not take them to a high enough grit. If that happens you will have just downgraded your Japanese cutlery and lost the advantage of the harder steel.
Maple & Motor?
I was just by there today and took note of the packed parking lot at 2:00 - if that's an indication.
Lunch around W 7th Street -- good food, reasonably priced, quiet, not the W 7th Street hype
So glad you're both still interested. We'll make it happen.
Breakfast in Dallas?
I don't know what constitutes "dynamite" by your definition, but.... if you're driving in from LBJ, 121 (Lewisville) or 114, I'd suggest Old West Cafe in Grapevine on NW Hwy (Bus 114). Due to extensive highway construction, don't rely on your GPS as exits are moving/closing on a daily basis. Look at a map to get your bearings. Allow plenty of time if you have an airport time requirement. if driving from 183, there is a new Bedford location on 121 @ Harwood Road in Bedford. http://oldwestcafe.us/menu
Billadelphia's
I just receive an email that their "official" reopen is this morning at 11am
Korean BBQ in DFW
Do your own Korean BBQ at home! It's fun, delicious and way less expensive. Just buy different cuts of meat and get the marinades for KoMart in Irving or H Mart near Omi. They sell frozen short ribs for a reasonable deal. Defrost the meat and marinate overnight or for at least four hours. I also include shrimp and pork belly. Lay out a tray of rinsed and prepared veggies: zucchini, baby bok choy, onions, and mushrooms. Get out an electric griddle, coat it with a little bit of olive oil and cook it all right there in your dining room! I did this a couple of weeks ago and it was a big hit!
Lamb Navarin
Call Rudolph's in Deep Ellum. 2924 Elm Street Dallas, TX 75226 (214) 741-1874
Business Dinner in North Dallas
Oh I'd also add Rafain Brazilian Steakhouse - similar concept to Texas de Brazil and the picanha is out of this world. www.rafain.com. I also like Banana Leaves...it's not your typical Texan restaurant (it's Thai food), but the food is good and the service is excellent. thaibananaleaf.com
