The wide array of American art housed within the Amon Carter Museum is breathtaking – from the first landscape painters of the 1830’s to modern artists of the twentieth century. The Amon Carter Museum offers visitors a stunning survey of American art, from the first landscape painters of the 1830's to modern artists of the twentieth century. The collection includes works from Alexander Calder, Thomas Cole, Stuart Davis, Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, Georgia O'Keeffe, John Singer Sargent, and Alfred Stieglitz. Benefactor Amon G. Carter's collection of works by the two greatest artists of the American West, Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell, are also housed here. The museum's photography collection ranks among the top five in the country, with more than 30,000 exhibition-quality prints that cover the breadth of the medium's history.

The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park is managed by the Dallas Zoo, and is home to a collection of approximately 6,000 aquatic animals, including marine and freshwater fish, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates, and also participates in a number of national and international conservation and research projects. It is a leader in the breeding of critically endangered Texas species, such as the Texas blind salamander and several desert fishes that are already extinct in nature. Special attractions include “Seahorse Rodeo” that allows visitors an intimate view of a number of varieties of seahorses, “Amazon Flooded Forest” which showcases 30 species of fish from the Amazon River, and the “World of Aquatic Diversity” featuring unusual and bizarre aquatic animals from around the globe. Visitors can also see an alligator snapping turtle weighing 135 pounds, venomous lion fish, a 5-foot-long electric eel, a 6-foot-long alligator gar and much more!

Take a trip back in time when visiting Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park, a living history museum portraying life in North Texas circa 1840-1910. The museum’s 13 acres is home to 38 historic structures, including a working Civil War-era farm, a traditional Jewish household, Victorian homes, a school, a church and commercial buildings. Dedicated to preserving structures, artifacts and other historical materials related to this period, the museum provides living interpretations of this period for the public.

This small, private aquarium features an exotic collection of marine life, all housed within a historic West End building. Stop by and say hello to the aquarium’s new Antillean manatees. The Dallas Zoo is filled with fun for the whole family. The zoo’s 95 acres are home to rare and endangered species from around the world, including Sumatran and Indochinese tigers housed in the Exxon-Mobil Endangered Tiger Habitat. Designated as a National Historic Landmark, Fair Park is known for its American Art Deco architecture during its heyday in the 1930’s. Located only two miles east of downtown Dallas, the 277-acred park is home to some of the city’s best museums, including the Music Hall, Smirnoff Music Centre, Band Shell and the Cotton Bowl, and hosts the State Fair of Texas every autumn. Established in 1941, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History was the very first children’s museum in Texas, and one of the first children’s museums in the nation. Designed by the great American architect Louis I. Kahn, the Kimball Art Museum has been called “America’s best small museum.” The Kimball’s world-class collection includes holdings that range in period from antiquity to the 20th century, including works by Fra Angelico, Caravaggio, Cézanne and Matisse. The Kimball is one of the only Southwest institutions with a substantial collection of Asian arts, and has a small but select group representing Mesoamerican and African pieces as well as Mediterranean antiquities.

The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame is the newest attraction in the Fort Worth Stockyards, and pays tribute to 58 of the top cowboys and cowgirls in Texas. Housed in what was once the horse and mule barns in the Stockyards, visitors can now view the Sterquell Wagon Collection, the world’s largest lifestyle wagon collection featuring more than 60 antique wagons, carriages and sleighs. They can also view the John Justin Trail of Fame which pays tribute to one of Fort Worth’s own, who spent a lifetime building the Justin Boot Company and became one of the city’s most prominent civic leaders. Included in the displays are a variety of boots, which were made for famous and not-so-famous customers, and photographs of Mr. Justin and the prominent people he knew as friends and through his business.

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealing Plaza is a permanent historical exhibition located in downtown Dallas. The exhibition explores the life, times, death and legacy of John F. Kennedy, with a focus on the impact of his death and the world, and receives more than two million visitors each year. The museum is located on the sixth floor of the Dallas County Administration Building (formerly the Texas School Book Depository) at 411 Elm Street at Houston in downtown Dallas.
