The museum features 60 dioramas of the flora and wildlife of Texas, a fully reconstructed Texas tenontosaurus dinosaur, a giant 90-million-year-old protostega sea turtle and a mosasarus. Special traveling exhibits are featured throughout the year. The museum recently received a generous gift of $10 million from Hunt Petroleum contributing to the purchase of the new museum site in downtown Dallas. The Natural History Museum will expand to five times its current size and is expected to open new doors in 2011.
