Bridgeport

Set against the natural beauty of the Trinity River, the city of Bridgeport is the second largest city in Wise County, and offers outstanding amenities for families and empty nesters alike. Known as a friendly bedroom community that offers a little bit of everything and a sense of community, it’s not surprising that housing prices here – even in a depressed national market – have appreciated about 9 percent in the last year.

Located just 45 miles northwest of Fort Worth at the intersection of US 380 and SH 114, Bridgeport offers a unique historic downtown shopping district with restaurants and boutiques. Back in the day, Bridgeport was a major stop on the trek west for the Butterfield Overland Mail Company’s stagecoach line. In homage to those early pioneering days, Bridgeport hosts the Butterfield Stage Days Parade and Rodeo each July.

Local events sponsored by the Bridgeport Youth Association and supported by individual Bridgeport citizens and businesses are also popular here. BYA activities include seasonal league games of soccer, softball, baseball, and basketball. The Texas Agri-Life Extension Service also sponsors 4-H activities, offering those of all ages the opportunity to participate in educational and recreational programs.

The Bridgeport Country Club offers a 9-hole regulation length golf course that is both fun and challenging, and The Club at Runaway Bay has an 18-hole course with tree-lined fairways, elevation changes, and breathtaking views of Lake Bridgeport In fact, Golf Digest has named it one of its Best Places to Play in the U.S.

Also in Bridgeport, the North Texas Community Hospital opened in 2008 on approximately 20 acres. This non-profit hospital offers the Bridgeport community a range of quality medical services, including family practice, physical therapy, emergency medicine, orthopedics, pulmonary medicine, general surgery and more. www.bridgeportchamber.org
