Back in the day, Bridgeport was a major stop on the trek west for the Butterfield Overland Mail Company’s stagecoach line. In homage to those early pioneering days, Bridgeport hosts the Butterfield Stage Days Parade and Rodeo each July.
Local events sponsored by the Bridgeport Youth Association and supported by individual Bridgeport citizens and businesses are also popular here. BYA activities include seasonal league games of soccer, softball, baseball, and basketball. The Texas Agri-Life Extension Service also sponsors 4-H activities, offering those of all ages the opportunity to participate in educational and recreational programs.
The Bridgeport Country Club offers a 9-hole regulation length golf course that is both fun and challenging, and The Club at Runaway Bay has an 18-hole course with tree-lined fairways, elevation changes, and breathtaking views of Lake Bridgeport In fact, Golf Digest has named it one of its Best Places to Play in the U.S.
Also in Bridgeport, the North Texas Community Hospital opened in 2008 on approximately 20 acres.
